Random Thoughts

While randomly flipping channels.. 

I stumbled accross this brief, 30 second part in "Indecent Proposal" movie.  Then, it hit me.

"What is this?" the Architecture teacher asks.

A student answers: "A brick."

[ the teacher chuckles ]

"Good. What else?" he asks again.

"A weapon."  Another student randomly answers.

[ the teacher chuckles again ]

The teacher then starts with a quote.

- Louis Kahn said, "Even a brick wants to be something."

"A brick wants to be something." He repeats.

"It aspires."

[ here comes the best part... ]

"Even a common, ordinary brick wants to be something more than it is." 

[ these profound words penetrate into the hearts of students.... and mine. ]

"Wants to be something better than it is."  He emphasizes.

[ a deep moment of reflection invades the prevailing silence  ]

"That is what we must be."   And that line was the most perfect.. perfect ending.

Us, too.

We may be small to the world.

But we can be great.

We can be better than what we are.

And make a true difference in our lives.

Or in others.

That is what we must be.

At least, that is what we must strive for.

So, never stop aspiring.

Keep your dreams alive..

And your passions firing.

And don't ever stop..

Moving forward.

That is, what I have to do.
