One thing I cannot resist is 雞蛋糕. I don't think anyone can...
Everytime you pass by, you are hypnotized by its buttery smell. Even if you do not feel hungry, you become hungry. It tempts you, calls your name - till you finally surrendor, walk back to the street vendor, and say: "I want 3 please" or "老闆,我要3個."
You have seen how it's made a million times, but it never gets old. You wait, patiently.
The moment the street vendor or 雞蛋糕先生 hands you the little brown paper bag, stuffed with your hot cakes, you can't help but feel a sense of happiness. You know it's going to be goooooood. A bite into the crispy skin, combined with hot chewy inside, is simply gratifying.
Who ever invented the 雞蛋糕, I give you all my respect. This simple recipe is like Coca-Cola: timeless. What a perfect marriage of taste, smell and texture... even the golden color. The wonderful thing is, we are reminded for a brief moment, of the memories of our childhood... how something so little and simple can make us feel happy and fulfilled. so instantly.
Somethings never have to change. Its secret recipe gives us a moment of simple pleasure, at only NT$25.

一張照片~就足以讓人流口水了... 請直接快遞..記到我家門口~謝謝! 哈~哈~哈~

Oh yeah, I live in the US... How come you write your blog in English? I thought you live in Taiwan?
I write in English, because I'm not as fluent in Mandarin. I lived in Montreal for about 18 years! Left Taiwan when I was six.. so basically, I had to learn how to write in Mandarin in the past few years, since I came back. I think writing in English is also a lot easier to fully express what I really think and feel!! And you! You live in the US?! how come you write in Mandarin?! :)
Oh, I see. I can understand that. It must be a big adjustment for you moving from place to place. I couldn't adjust to Taiwan, even though I grew up there for 15 years... I spent almost half of my life in the US and I somehow like it a lot better, but TW is a great place to visit, just probably not a long-term living for me... I wrote in Chinese just because I don't wanna lose that capability I have with the language. I'm bilingual and both languages are equally challenging to me : )
Yah.. I was really not used to it at first, when I came back about 5 years ago. Everything was so different. Everything. It was like starting life here, all over again. But after awhile, I slowly got used to it. I know what you mean.. that Taiwan is a great place, but that you are just not quiet sure if this is the place to live forever. I admit, I miss Montreal a lot. But my parents are here... so I am building a new home here. But we never know where we are going to end up at the end, right? Only time can tell. Which part of US do you live in? I know Summer must be beautiful there.. hot, but at least not as humid! That's great that you are still really fluent in Mandarin - good to keep our roots! I am slowly trying to catch up, the best I can, to communicate my thoughts in Mandarin - not easy, but I try! :)
Wow... Building a new home there? That sounds really something. It seems to me you're a very adaptive person, so I guess you'll do fine! I hope you enjoy the life there. The food definitely is great! Probably what I love the most about TW... :D I live in California. It's nice here... I like the weather and the diversity of people. I like Mandarin... It's complex, but I like that fashion of the expression. You're doing very well! How long have you been learning that language?
Trust me.. it hasn't always been so easy adapting to the new life here. But I realized that since I started REALLY opening up my heart to this place, I felt more at home. And.. what can I say, the food is amazing here, like you mentioned! California... niiiiiiice. Beautiful weather, beautiful people. I think that's also something I miss, the diversity of people, from different walks of life and cultures. It's amazing how they all glue together in the same city. Enjoy that for me!!! Umm... I only started writing in Mandarin about last year - actually, I can only type and not write, since I can only recognize the shape and form of the characters. But I can easily get mixed up! But thanks for the encouragement, I'll keep working on it! Hope you enjoy your weekend!
